The Common Midwestern Lardbird

I did the first day if Couch 2 5K. It was killer! At first I wasn't even going to think about it--bird by bird!--but then I realized that I can *reflect* without dwelling. I also realized that it is my hope that at some point in the future (hopefully before the RftC) I am gong to *want* to look back and see how far I have come. So, with that in mind I am going to let myself reflect.

Reflect then set it aside.

So, bird by bird, I will consider this
# 1. The fat, slow, graceless bird also known as the Common Midwestern Lardbird.
:-)

5 min of 3.0 then 60 seconds at 4.0 and 90 seconds at 3.0 alternating for 20 minutes. 1.08 miles

That was the longest 60 seconds of my life! And when I thought I might give up, I got to walk.

I am amazed at how s.l.o.w. I am. And out of shape. And lumbering.

I started to think of how looooong 26.2 miles is, but I realized several things:

*I will no doubt be in better shape. honestly it would be hard to be in
worse shape.

*Plus I could just *walk*. And I do mean walk, or mosey. I could mosey 26 miles right now. It wouldn't be pretty, but I could do it.

*But mostly,
I don't have to go 26.2 today. Today I needed to go 25 minutes, alternating walking and jogging.

And I did.

I am jealous of you being able to walk ANY miles on a treadmill, since our is broken. But, it seems the broken part is a warranty item. Yesterday the manufacturer told us that rather than sending us a new part, they are going to send us a new treadmill. We both sort of think we will believe it when we see it, but it will be great if it happens. So, maybe by the end of next week, we will have a treadmill again.

And, it is true, you don't have to go 26.2 today. And, I think that on the day of the race you don't go 26.2 either - you go one mile and then the next. Or until the next turn and then the next one. Or until you count to 100 and then until you count to 100 again. Whatever you need to do. You only run 26.2 miles when its over. ;)

You know, that is a good point. Everything I have read (and of course I have read a lot, but done very little) talks about the mental aspect of it. And this is a big part of it for me, but even way before marathon day. If I were to think about tomorrow I have to do it again...wel, we won't go there. :-)

And wouldn't it be awesome if you got a new treadmill???? Mine is in lousy shape and the belt slips (I am sure that is fixable but I do not know how) but it works and it works well (the lousy bit is just because of the way it is made) and it does the job.

Mental is a HUGE part of it, which is a little scary because I'm weak. But the last two seasons on Biggest Loser one of the last challenges is to do a FULL marathon. Most of them do jog all or most of it, which is totally amazing. And they attribute it to mentally doing just a little at a time. I love that show because you see the physical and mental transformations the people make. It's awesome and inspiring!

One day at a time is the best way for sure!

And yay for a new treadmill! AND Yay for Rose making it on here! I'm so happy! :)
