What the heck is the thing...

that runs down the back of your knee? Not a muscle, maybe a ligament? Tendon? I don't know, but mine feels tight ALL the time. Even when walking. In fact, it is not possible for it to not feel tight.

I feel like I need to loosen it up or something. I am afraid I am going to tear it or strain it....whatever the heck it is.

And it is only a problem on my right knee.

And ideas?

Well this is very interesting...I have a similar issue with my LEFT knee!

I'm no doctor, and the knee is such a complicated joint, I hate to even guess what it could be. There's a lot of ligaments (connect bone to bone) and tendons (connect muscle to bone) in a knee.

Mine has been on and off, but this past spring, I was just walking around the house and something ...happened. The only way I can describe it is it felt like a rubber band flipped over in the back of my knee. ha ha I know, weird. Since then, I have pain often and can feel 'something' in there that's tight and moves different. I'm extra careful with it in jogging, TKD, and yoga. I'm scared something is torn and trying to heal, but obviously don't have the money for an MRI to be sure. At the same time, how could anything tear walking around the house? And I believe that moderate exercise is still good for it. So, until it's really serious, mine will hopefully remain a mystery.

I did go on webMD and type in posterior knee stiffness/tightness and here's what came up:
-osteoarthritis
-baker's cyst
-exercise or physical activity
-posterior cruciate ligament injury
Hopefully it's just #3! :)

Be careful with it and listen to your body! There's been times when I didn't finish my miles for a day because my knee was telling me no. I've also recently learned that you should stretch out AFTER exercise because the muscles are warm (not as much before when they're cold). :)

Keep me posted on this, I'm very interested to see if you find anything else out!
