YES! I've met one of my goals! So, I've been going to the Y to work out... I do better when I run on the track vs a treadmill. Their track is 'small', 1 lap=1/11 of a mile or 11 laps= 1 mile. I started walking-jogging on a regular basis about 2 months ago. I could not jog more than 1 lap without totally dying of exhaustion, gasping for breath, and my knees hurt SO bad. So I would do my two miles- walking a lap, then jogging a lap. Alternating all the way to 22 laps completed. This would take me 30 minutes, a 15 minute mile. sigh. But last week, something happened. I had made a promise to my sister, set goals, and didn't reach them (I missed exercise classes). I was mad and I was out to prove a point. So when I got back in the gym at the end of the week, I just decided I was ready to push myself. I started out walking my first lap, then jogging the second as usual, but when it came time to walk again...I kept jogging! I did the whole two miles walking one lap then jogging two laps! :) I was totally pooped at the end and my knees ached a little, but SO satisfied with myself! Then as I was walking to my car I realized that I'd have to start doing this all the time, because I did it once, I knew I could do it again. So...since that day, I've done it 4 times! Now I do two miles in about 25 minutes! woot woot! :) My ultimate goal is a 5K in 30 minutes or less, but that's still a long way off right now. ha ha
When I jog, I really focus on trying to control my breathing, and not wheezing or gasping for breath. I try to stay at a steady pace, not too slow, but never too fast. I drink water on my walking lap to stay hydrated (yes I run with my water bottle!) Most importantly, I tell myself positive thoughts when I feel it getting hard. This has made a huge difference. The power of positive thinking is real! :)

Wow! That is awesome!
I am thoroughly impressed and totally jealous. You did 2 miles while I did 1. ha ha
I remember WAY back when I was training for my first marathon (unsuccessfully) that breathing was a huge thing for me. I would actually have to measure my breaths with my steps. 2 steps in 2 steps out or else I was a gasping mess.
And I am not sure what I am going to do about water. I know there will be water stations so race time I probably won't worry but when I hold my water it is annoying and gets hot.
Have you looked at all at the belt that holds mini bottles? I am intrigued by them and see people using them. At some point I might check them out.
I know, too, that the Non Runners Marathon Guide (which I will need to dig out of storage) spent 1/3 of the time focused on positive thinking, positive imagery, that sort of thin. It is all mental and we should imagine crossing the finish line and imagine pushing past "the wall" and such.
You are doing so well!
I know I wouldn't have stuck with this without accountability so thanks for keeping me going!!!
